Sapienza (far l.), Dustin Hoffman on “Runaway Jury” set

With JAKE SHEARS of SCISSOR SISTERS

Sapienza with gay literary legend, Felice Picano

During his teaching career, Sapienza taught high school

English in several schools, whose student bodies included

future pro athletes Kenny Anderson and Bobby Hurley,

actor Brian Scolaro (TV’s “Stacked”) and musician Anoushka Shankar.

In 2001, Sapienza was a Teacher of the Year

nominee.  He is featured in “Who’s Who Among American Teachers.”

After leaving religious life, Sapienza worked for the now-defunct Tower Air. His travels took him around the world from Russia to Greece to Japan and even to Somalia, where he helped bring troops home from Desert Storm.

As a writer, Sapienza has written several cover stories for “The Gay and Lesbian Times,” mostly centered on gay literature.  An in-depth interview with one of the founding fathers of gay literature, Felice Picano, inspired Sapienza to write his first novel, “Seventy Times Seven.”

Sapienza is also featured in Tribune’s “They Came From Queens,” highlighting notable people who grew up in Queens, New York.

After several years of living in New Orleans, Sapienza evacuated his Bourbon Street apartment two days before Hurricane Katrina.  He now resides in the gay-friendly resort town of Saugatuck on Lake Michigan, where he and his partner own the Beechwood Manor Inn.  He is currently at work on his second novel.

Sapienza has also appeared in several feature films, including “Runaway Jury” with John Cusack, “A Love Song for Bobby Long,” with Scarlett Johannsen, “Mr. 3000” with Bernie Mac, as well as the CBS TV movie “The Dead Will Tell” with Anne Heche.  See IMDB profile or Amazon.
